Stacey Baca is an American veteran journalist who reports, anchors and stays connected on Twitter and Facebook. She currently anchors the weekend newscasts on ABC 7 News on Saturday and Sunday mornings alongside Mark Rivera, having joined the station in June 2002.
She is a versatile reporter who covers diverse stories ranging from breaking news, crime, education, politics, and feature stories. In addition, Baca contributes to the afternoon newscasts and often reports on ABC 7 News at 10.
Stacey is passionate about covering military news throughout the Chicago area. This is a personal inspiration since she is married to a retired naval aviator and has been involved in military life for more than 20 years. Her husband’s career has made her cover coast to coast.
Before joining ABC 7 News in Chicago, Baca anchored and reported at KNSD in San Diego between 199-2002. In California, she covered everything ranging from military, crime, politics, and courts, to International border issues between the United States and Mexico. Prior to joining KNSD, she worked in Norfolk, Virginia, the home of the country’s largest Navy base. At the station, she anchored and reported the Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts at WTKR-TV (1996-1998).
Her journalism career did not begin just on television. It started with newspapers, where she worked for the Brighton Standard Blade while attending the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Immediately after her graduation, she was hired by the Denver Post as a staff writer serving between 1992 and 1996. During her service, she unveiled information about the local militia movements and detailed how HIV/AIDS was affecting the Latino community.
Throughout her career, Baca has received numerous awards and recognition from the Associated Press as well as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). In addition, she is a member of NATAS and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
