Steve Stewart Biography
Steve Stewart is an American journalist currently working as the weekend morning meteorologist at ABC11 News since the spring of 2006. Stewart has been an on-air meteorologist since 1989 and is one of the top designers using WSI since 1997.
Steve attended Metropolitan State College of Denver between 1991 and 1994 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast journalism.
He then started his career at the age of 19 years at Hoak Media of Colorado KREX-TV as an evening weather anchor. This was from November 1989 to June 1991 when he quit joining KSFY-TV in Sioux Falls, SD to work as a weekend weather anchor and reporter.
Steve then left KSFY-TV in April 1993 and headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado. At Colorado, he joined KKTV 11 News in August 1993 as a part-time weekend meteorologist. After two years of service, Stewart moved to Santa Barbara, California, and joined KEYT-TV as the station’s Chief Meteorologist.
After serving KEYT-TV for 8 years, Steve eventually left the station and joined WNCN in Raleigh, NC in June 2004. He served as the station’s weekend meteorologist, and weather graphics design for NBC O&O’s.
In June 2016, Steve joined ABC11 News in Raleigh NC as a weekend meteorologist. He is the station’s weekend morning show host and is responsible for the weather graphics at the station.
Steve has been awarded the AMS Seal of Approval and is best known in the TV meteorology community as the best weather graphics person in the nation. In addition, Stewart was a professional comedian in Denver while he was finishing Meteorology school. While in Santa Barbara, Steve was awarded 4 Golden Globes, 3 AP awards, and 2 RTNDA awards for Best Meteorologist.
