William Brangham Biography

William Brangham is an Emmy award-winning journalist who is currently a correspondent for the PBS NewsHour. Prior to this role, William worked as a producer for multiple other television programs for PBS. In his journalism career, Brangham has won a Peabody Award in 2015 and a News & Documentary Emmy Award in 2017.

William attended Colorado College, where he studied English language and literature from 1986 to 1990. Later on, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Brangham started his career as a research assistant and later as an associate producer and field producer for a number of Bill Moyers documentaries and series. In addition, he worked on a variety of documentary films and projects for ABC News, National Geographic’s Explorer series, several segments of PBS’s Frontline (1995-1996), and The New York Times documentary series Science Times (2001).

Moreover, Brangham rejoined Moyer’s production company for the PBS Magazine Now. At the production, William shot, wrote, and produced dozens of broadcast stories and Interviews for six years. After that, he worked as a producer on Bill Moyers Journal, after its revival in 2007. Moreover, he joined the PBS magazine show Need to Know after the former program went off the air in 2010.

William worked as a producer, cameraman, and occasional correspondent on Need to Know for its entire run. Furthermore, he served as an adjunct professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism for a year.

In June 2013, Brangham joined the weekend edition of PBS NewsHour as a producer, correspondent, and occasional substitute anchor. In this position, William reported across the United States and abroad including from Germany, Denmark, France, and Iran.

Brangham then left New York City in May 2015 to join PBS NewsHour in Washington D.C. as a correspondent, reporting on general events, conducting studio interviews, and sometimes filling in as anchor of the program.

Moreover, for his reporting on the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe, William’s program was cited for NewsHour’s 2015 Peabody Award. In October 2017, PBS NewsHour’s Six-part-series “The End of AIDS?”, of which Brangham was the correspondent, won a News & Documentary Emmy Award in the category “Outstanding Science, Medical and Environmental Report”. The series also received other several awards including the National Academies Communication Award in the category “Film/Radio/TV”.
