Winston Duke Biography
Winston Duke is a Tobagonian actor who made his feature film debut in the role of M’Baku in Black Panther (2018). He is famous for portraying the character in four films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Born in Tobago, he attended Yale School of Drama where he graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts in acting in 2013.
After his studies, he had small roles in theatre productions and television shows such as Person of Interest and Modern Family. When he was young, his mother owned a restaurant and he showed the customers to their tables and learned how to “charm” strangers at an early age. When he was nine, his mother sold the restaurant and their possessions.
After this, they moved to a studio apartment in Brooklyn so that his older sister Cindy would attend medical school. Duke started acting in theatre productions for Portland Stage Company and Yale Repertory Theatre before being cast in Person of Interest. He was also cast in small roles in television series like Law and Order: Specia Victims Unit, among others.
In 2019, he starred in Us, a horror film directed by Jordan Peele. Later in October of the same year, he signed on to Swagger but was replaced by O’Shea Jackson Jr. due to an injury suffered on-set in February 2020. Duke was named actor of the year by GQ Australia in September 2019. He then starred in Nine Days in 2020 and in March he starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in Spencer Confidential.
