Maureen gave birth to her daughter, Keegan, in 1999. She brought her to the Extra set every day and had a crib for Keegan in her office. In O’Boyle freshman year at East Carolina University, she helped the campus to restart its radio station WZMB. She was luckily hired to do morning cut-ins at the NBC affiliate at WITN in nearby Washington. Later on, she went to work for WNCT in Grenville on weekends. Maureen left school before graduating and she was hired in Wilmington, North Carolina at WECT. She worked as a nightside reporter and later on promoted to be a noon anchor.
Maureen shifted to WMAZ in Macon, Georgia, and served as a co-anchor and reporter. Furthermore, she also left the station and became the main anchor for the CBS affiliate, KREM 2 in Spokane, Washington.
O’Boyle was recruited and replaced by Maury Povich on the nationally syndicated A Current Affair in 1992. Fortunately, its viewership rose y 15 percent and she rated a higher Q Score than any other newswoman on TV at that time. She hosted A Current Affair and she was replaced by Penny Daniels in 1994
Maureen became weekend anchor and reporter of the Los Angeles-based TV series Extra in 1995. In 1996, she left Extra and hosted her own talk show In-Person which ran for one season. O’Boyle returned to Extra and co-anchored until September 1997. Additionally, she appeared as herself in the films So I Married an Axe Murderer and Undisputed.
O’Boyle left television in order to be a full-time mother in 1999. Maureen returned to her hometown in 2004 and joined WBTV as the station’s top female anchor alongside Paul Cameron. She has been the main anchor and de facto face in the station since the retirement of Cameron in 2018. O’Boyle also played herself in a 1998 episode of The Larry Sanders Show and she interviewed Garry Shandling’s lead character.
Furthermore, Maureen works with numerous charities such as The American Red Cross, Assistance League of Charlotte, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, American Heart Association, Dress for Success, and Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. In November 2010, she appeared on a charity edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Herself and his fellow co-anchor raised $48,000 for the Greater Enrichment Program, an after-school program for at-risk youth.
