Maureen O’Boyle is a well-known American television reporter and news anchor, currently working at WBTV News 3 in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. She anchors the weekly report, Stretching Your Dollar. Additionally, O’Boyle has been the anchorwoman for the TV shows “A Current Affair” and “Extra.”

O’Boyle attended and graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1981. She immediately joined East Carolina University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

In O’Boyle’s freshman year at East Carolina University, she helped the campus restart its radio station, WZMB. She was luckily hired to do morning cut-ins at the NBC affiliate, WITN, in nearby Washington. Later on, she went to work for WNCT in Grenville on weekends. Maureen left school before graduating, and she was hired in Wilmington, North Carolina at WECT. She worked as a nightside reporter and was later promoted to noon anchor.

Maureen shifted to WMAZ in Macon, Georgia, and served as a co-anchor and reporter. Furthermore, she also left the station and became the main anchor for the CBS affiliate, KREM 2, in Spokane, Washington.

O’Boyle was recruited and replaced by Maury Povich on the nationally syndicated A Current Affair in 1992. Fortunately, its viewership rose y 15 percent and she rated a higher Q Score than any other newswoman on TV at that time. She hosted A Current Affair and she was replaced by Penny Daniels in 1994

Maureen became weekend anchor and reporter of the Los Angeles-based TV series Extra in 1995. In 1996, she left Extra and hosted her own talk show, In-Person, which ran for one season. O’Boyle returned to Extra and co-anchored until September 1997. Additionally, she appeared as herself in the films “So I Married an Ax Murderer” and “Undisputed.”

In 1999, O’Boyle left television in order to be a full-time mother. Maureen returned to her hometown in 2004 and joined WBTV as the station’s top female anchor alongside Paul Cameron. She has been the main anchor and de facto face of the station since her retirement of Cameron in 2018. In a 1998 episode of The Larry Sanders Show, O’Boyle also played herself, and she interviewed Garry Shandling’s lead character.

Furthermore, Maureen works with numerous charities such as the American Red Cross, Assistance League of Charlotte, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, American Heart Association, Dress for Success, and Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. In November 2010, she appeared on a charity edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Together, he and his fellow co-anchors raised $48,000 for the Greater Enrichment Program, an after-school program for at-risk youth.
